Sleep 8 hours.

Eat 3 meals a day at fixed times.

Train three times a week after work.

Reduce stress.

That sounds reasonable. For someone who sleeps at 11 PM, wakes up at 7, and gets home at 6 PM every evening.

For you, it's a different language.

The assumption behind every health plan

Every health recommendation you know — nutrition guidelines, sleep recommendations, exercise recommendations — is based on studies of people with a normal daily rhythm. That's not a criticism of the researchers. It's simply how research works: with the typical case.

Shift workers are not the typical case. 15–20% of all employees work shifts — but the research base for shift-worker-specific recommendations is significantly thinner.

The result: You get advice that's theoretically correct — and practically doesn't work for your life. You try it anyway. You fail. You believe it's your fault.

It's not your fault

The first step is understanding that the failure is structural — not personal. You're not some special case that's "not made" for health. You're someone who needs a different system.

That changes everything. Not as an excuse — as a starting point for real change.
